Sadness isn’t like they show you
Her song’s not played by a string quartet,
Sadness isn’t like they tell you,
She isn’t easy to forget
Sometimes sadness comes with laughter,
Sometimes you don’t even cry,
If happiness is what you’re after
No one finds it their first try.
Sadness doesn’t have a lining,
Silver, gold, or copper bronze,
It’s not worth even describing
Your quiet nights and lonely dawns,
Sadness isn’t like they spin it,
Sometimes wilted roses bloom,
You get close but just can’t pin it
Down fall flowers on a tomb.
Sadness doesn’t ever ask you,
When’s a good time to arrive,
Sometimes sadness brushes past you,
Sometimes you barely survive.
Sadness doesn’t have a name,
But whose will you be calling?
You know sadness never is the same,
But to some it feels like falling.
Sadness wears her prettiest dress,
And then she shrugs her shoulders,
Given up trying to impress,
The world behind her smoulders.
Sadness wears her frown on sideways,
Walking down the avenue,
Down busy streets and empty byways
Sadness passed right over you.
Sadness isn’t like a story,
Sometimes there’s no happy end,
Not a tragedy or allegory,
No acting and no pretend.
Sadness isn’t like they show you
Her song’s not played by a string quartet,
Sadness isn’t like they tell you,
She isn’t easy to forget.

Pictures in the Sand
03:09
|
|||
Distance is a feeling you know all too well,
Spreads around you like a fire that you can’t quell,
All the things that you had planned
Fade like pictures in the sand,
Try to fill the gaps between
With all the faces you have seen,
The places that you’ve been,
Through memories regrets you’re sifting,
Space is growing, you’re still drifting.
You withdraw into your thoughts,
And you’re still caught,
By all the things you try to fix,
This feeling somehow always sticks
All this baggage to unpack,
You’ve been partway round the world and back,
Just to find what you once had is what you now lack,
Trying to patch up this old rift,
Praying one day things will shift
That your spirits soon will lift,
Just holding on to hope can be a gift
It’s a long stretch, you try to etch
One last picture in the sand,
Drifting still, someday you’ll land.

Lake Scene
03:05
|

Distant shores,
On the pink horizon
Gentle waves,
Summer rain falls slowly,
Red balloon,
Floats above the waters,
Tiny boat,
Drifts away so lonely
You smile
Waves begin to dance
You sing,
rain begins to laugh,
You reflect
Wind carries your thoughts.
Far away
Where the waves seem so much smaller
Overhead the birds are calling,
You, the tiny boat,
a red balloon
drifting in your solitude,
Sun begins to slowly wane
Lonely gentle summer rain
Makes a gradual descent
Down towards the emerald waters.
Distant shores
on the pink horizon,
Gentle waves,
Summer rain falls slowly.
Red balloon,
Floats above the water,
Tiny boat,
Drifts away so lonely.

Butterfly
04:15
|
|||
What did you see when you flew across the universe
Did you hear the tune that the nightingales sing?
What did you feel when you floated in your nothingness,
Did you ever touch the ceiling they call the sky?
What did you see when you sailed across the galaxies,
Did you ever hold the stars in the palm of your hands?
You’re a butterfly, you’re drunk you’re dreaming,
Drowning in sweet nectar with a smile that’s beaming,
Kaleidoscope of colours as you gently rise.
colours of your wings paint pictures in the skies,
Wind calls your name, bringing sounds from afar,
A nightingale symphony that chases the stars,
You’re a butterfly, you’re drunk and dreaming,
Wake to find the heavens above are gleaming,
What did you see when you flew between planets,
Did you ever hear the song that the nightingales sing?
What was it like, did you see did you hear,
Would you sing me the tune that the nightingales sing.
Goodnight lullaby,
Drift away my butterfly,
You brought colour to a world gone grey,
Brushstrokes of your wings carry you away,
Sleep tight hushabye,
Drift away my sweet butterfly,
You brought colour to a black and white dream,
Showed us things aren’t always as they seem.

Upside Down
03:17
|
|||
Lately things are upside down,
You’re walking on the ceiling
Carpets on the wall, and you’re strung out on feelings.
Take a stroll or take a chance,
Mind just keeps on reeling,
Upside downside, pick a stance,
To whom are you appealing?
Fall behind
The big parade,
And find
Lately things are upside down, same shapes but different angles,
Smiles sure look like frowns these days, slowly life untangles,
Take a gander for yourself,
Old friends begin to wrangle
Coughing up a big surprise,
Time it slowly strangles.
Fall behind
The big parade,
And find
This place is such a grind
Leering eyes and sultry smiles
What’s the big idea
Failing friendships, stifled laughs
Wouldn’t wanna be ya
People acting like they care,
But they don’t wanna hear ya
Seems no one here can get along,
What’s the big idea
Lately things are upside down,
you’re walking on the ceiling
Carpets on the wall, you’re still strung out on feelings
Take a stroll or take a chance,
Mind just keeps on reeling,
Upside downside, pick a stance
To whom are you appealing?
Lately things are upside down.

I can tell by the way you walk
That your head is in your own ass,
I can tell by the way you talk
That your twisted tongue is full of lies,
I can tell by the way you drink
That you’ve got a lot bottled up inside,
I can tell by the way you laugh
That you’re really holding back tears.
Walking in a masquerade,
Pretending that you’re someone else,
Welcome to the escapades,
Pretend you give two shits or less.
Hello, hello,
Let your true colours show,
Stoop down below
To a level we all know,
No need to put on a happy face,
No one in this life ever finished the race.
I can tell by the way you move
That you’re trying to run away from time,
I can tell by the way you smile
That you really hate it here,
I can tell by the way you smoke
That you’d rather choke yourself to death,
I can tell by the way you swear
That you’re only ever cursing yourself.
Walking in a masquerade,
Pretend to be something you’re not,
Your emotions on parade,
Pretend like it all means a lot.
Hello, hello,
Let your true colours show,
Stoop down below
To a level we all know,
No need to put on a happy face,
No one in this life ever finished the race.
Fake smiles artificial laughs
Masks to hide our feelings
Masks to hide our thoughts
Fake smiles artificial laughs
We all act honest, then lie through our teeth.
I can tell by the way you act
That you’re trying to fit a role,
I can tell by the way you think
That your mind is somewhere else,
I can tell by the way you try
You’ve got something on the line,
I can tell by the way you sigh,
That you also got nothing to lose
Hello, hello,
Let your true colours show,
Stoop down below
To a level we all know,
No need to put on a happy face,
No one in this life ever finishes the race.
Fake smiles artificial laughs,
Masks to hide our feelings,
Masks to hide our thoughts,
Fake smiles artificial laughs,
We all act honest, then lie through our teeth.
I can tell by the way you speak,
That you don’t say what you mean,
I can tell by the way you give,
That you’re trying take it all yourself
I can tell by the way you love
That you never cared for much,
I can tell by the way you judge
That you never had a lot of trust.
Walking in a masquerade.

Waves
04:11
|
|||
Sound of passing cars
Reminds you of waves,
You’re sailing off, you hope the waters behave,
A sea of moving noise, you’re an island of poise
When you’re dreaming,
The flicker of a lamp can sometimes look like the stars,
When you’re chasing feelings,
Always healing,
Brain is reeling,
Let the current take you further,
Cast the weight right off your shoulders,
Your mind circles round and round,
Gets lost within familiar sound,
You’re sailing still so don’t dream up a storm.
Sit there in a comfortable chair,
Just reminiscing like you haven’t a care,
Sounds of the street,
Whether loud or discreet
Make you happy
You know it’s not a crime,
To believe in good times,
So just trust your feelings,
Clouds of a storm may be near,
Is it thunder afar that you hear
Sky above may be leering,
The ship is astray, no one’s steering,
Let the current take you further,
Cast the weight right off your shoulders
Your mind circles round and round
Gets lost within familiar sound,
Sailing through a storm, and it’s alright.
There’s solace you find in the past,
The current’s brought you here but not all things last,
You sit there rocking,
As the cars keep on passing,
And you’re just laughing,
The waters rising,
No use fantasizing,
But you’re still smiling,
Still sitting there dreaming
To keep yourself from waking up screaming,
Let the waves drown out the noise.

Your Love
02:39
|
|||
Your love is like a fast-food dinner,
Good right now but it’ll kill me later,
You’ll make me come back for seconds and thirds,
Spoon-feed me please with your poison-glazed words,
Your love is like a triple-stacked burger,
With grease running down from the sides,
Toss me a square of your American cheese,
Fatten me up till I crawl back on my knees,
This love’s just a junk food snack,
This love’s giving me a heart attack.
Your love is a bouquet of fries,
You’re a salty potato that goes straight to my thighs,
Guilty pleasure, you satisfy my urges,
Just a short time before heartburn emerges,
Your love is like deep-fried butter,
Sweet sugar sugar, my heart is all a flutter,
Oversaturate me, gimme more than I need,
Send me on my way, satisfaction guaranteed.
This love’s just a junk food snack,
This love’s giving me a heart attack.
Your love is like a fast food dinner,
Good right now but it’ll kill me later,
Your love is just an endless drive-thru,
Waiting in line, but you just seem to look right through.

Roadkill Cafe
02:04
|
|||
Death sleeps at the roadside,
Beneath the big blue sky,
Sleeps with one eye open,
Waits to be picked up.
Resting by the wayside,
‘neath the gaze of a passerby
One eye closed,
Seems death is winking,
As it waits to be picked up.
We keep driving on the highway,
Heading to roadkill cafe,
Running out of things to say,
Our life is merely slow decay.
Death is summoned to your bedside,
Floats across the room to where you lie,
Lifeless arms outstretched towards you,
Time has come to be picked up.
Death takes you for one last ride,
Across the open country,
Eyes wide open as you breathe,
The wind it feels so pleasant.
Heading down this lonely highway,
Driving to roadkill cafe,
Slowly we roll up the driveway,
Sun beats down as we decay
Death sleeps at the roadside,
Beneath the big blue sky,
One eye open, one eye closed,
Waits to be picked up.

Grass Beneath Your Feet
04:03
|
|||
Beneath the wide arches,
Where the wind always howls,
In the shadows people whisper,
There’s a deal going on,
Creak of a door,
Lie awake on the floor,
Shake at your core, wondering what is in store.
They say there’s a light at the end of the tunnel,
Sand in the hourglass trickles down through the funnel,
Grasping for straws as you drown in black water,
Gasping for air as the leashes get tighter.
Remember when you danced among the trees,
Do you remember the grass beneath your feet,
There was a melody that you liked to hum,
Now you’ve grown silent and forgotten where you’re from.
They say there’s a place you’ll be happy again,
Where you’ll dance with the trees and fly with the wind,
Perhaps it’s a pipe dream, but if life’s just this nightmare,
Would you rather wake up or get caught by these fancies?
Dear life, we’re holding on for,
Dear life you’ve got your chokehold on,
Dear life you never cared for this
Dear life, Sincerely yours
Beneath the wide arches,
Where the wind always howls,
In the shadows people whisper,
There’s a deal going on,
Just like before,
Lie awake on the floor,
Shaking at your core, wondering what is in store.

Ballerina
05:08
|
|||
Petals of a flower
Reaching out towards the light,
Spinning ballerina,
In a wooden music box,
Doll crafted of porcelain,
Watches from the window sill,
A child outside runs gleefully
To an ice cream truck’s old tune,
Fragile things,
Delicate things,
All the things in life that easily break
Familiar songs,
Soft melodies,
All the things in life that make you smile.
Daylight through the curtains
Makes dust look like the fairies,
That fly around a figure
Dancing in a music box,
Porcelain eyes that glitter
As they watch the dancer spin,
Her movements tell a story,
Though she’s not one to talk.
Music keeps ringing,
Her wind-up heart’s singing,
So long as the music keeps playing
She’s spinning,
She knows each rise and each dip in the melody,
Danced to it countless times, her alarm and a lullaby.
Goodbye to all the pretty things,
Farewell to all the lovely things,
Goodbye.
Trying to make each moment,
Last a little longer,
Stuck in time, spinning
To a song she knows by heart
Porcelain doll keeps smiling
At the ballerina,
Who wound up pirouetting
For an audience of one,
Spinning slower
Lights get lower,
Music stumbles,
Starts to crumble,
Perfect silhouette
Of a figure freezing over,
Spinning ever slower
In her wooden music box,
But she will keep on dancing
Till the final chord,
Waiting for that last note
That puts her dreams to sleep.
Fragile things,
The delicate things,
All the things in life that easily break,
Old familiar sounds,
Gentle melodies,
All the things in life that make you smile ,
Spinning to a stop.

Wasting Away
02:02
|
|||
Wasting away,
Just sitting here drinking my lemonade,
Thinking this time it’ll be different,
This time things will be okay.
Sunshine disco, midnight blues,
Starry skies and pastel hues,
Hiking trails and nature views,
Just getting high and drinking brews,
We ain’t got shit to lose
Wasting away,
Lying in a hammock on a warm sunny day,
Thinking this time it’ll be different,
This time things will be okay.
Evening tide so slow and gentle,
Tickling my memory’s banks,
Lake breeze makes me sentimental,
Brings back feelings I’ve forgot,
Wasting away,
Just sitting here searching for the right words to say.
Wasting away,
Asking, “When’s the right time to rip off the band-aid”,
Hoping this time it’ll be different,
Yeah this time things will be okay,
This time things will be okay.
